HonoluluIn Honolulu, there’s no better way to break into radio than to extern in a real Honolulu radio station. We’re the school that gets your foot in the door.

Make the smart choice for your career: learn radio from the pros who do it for a living, and get connected to the business by getting educated within it. Do your homework and see: our radio school is hands-down the smartest, most cost-efficient option on the market today.

While Arbitron ranks Honolulu as the 64th largest radio market in the U.S. (mainly due to Hawaii’s limited population), Honolulu is arguably the communication hub for the Hawaiian Islands, serving as the state capital and largest city, anchoring a metro area of almost a million people. As such, Honolulu is home to over 30 strong-signal stations, many of which can be received across the islands. While the typical News/Talk, Adult Contemporary and dance/hip-hop stations are certainly present, many of the stations predictably broadcast in several “island music” formats, such as Traditional Hawiian/folk and “Jawiian” (Hawaii’s version of reggae). Two of the more popular such stations are KQMQ-FM (93.1 Pa’ina) and KDNN-FM (Island 98.5). Areas of Hawaii outside the Honolulu signal range can also receive the signals from many of these stations via local digital cable.

If you want to become part of the Honolulu radio market as an on-air personality, DJ, station manager, program director, technician or other radio discipline, the best way to do that is to get directly involved with Honolulu radio, not through classroom study. This is why through the RADIO CONNECTION’s innovative mentor-extern approach, we place you as a working extern in a Honolulu radio station, from day one.

We’ve spent nearly 3 decades forging valuable industry relationships with studios across the country, including in Honolulu. We use these connections to your advantage, enabling you to learn on-the-job, in the studio, one-on-one with a real radio pro, for the entire length of your training. All your classes take place on-the-job, where you learn quickly via hands-on training while making valuable, job-producing connections. There is simply no better way to break into radio!
