NEW YORK, NEW YORK is the largest ADI Market in the U.S. If Los Angeles is the Entertainment Capital of the country, New York is its Media Center. New York radio is legendary— Howard Stern being only the latest in a long litany of DJ Superstars to grace New York airwaves. Network TV, as well as several of the largest Cable Companies including HBO, are run out of New York. The New York Times, The New York Post and The New York Daily News make it the only three daily paper town in the U.S. The city has a long standing love affair with sports, supporting two MLB teams (Yankees and Mets), two NFL teams (Giants and Jets), two NBA teams (Knicks and Nets) and a hockey team (Rangers).
From a corporate, if not artistic standpoint, New York controls the TV and Music businesses. From a sheer largess point of view New York also dominates the Radio business and is a close rival to Los Angeles in the Film business. IBDB puts the figure at over 11,365 feature films, TV series and specials that chose New York for their location. New York has a radio station to satisfy any taste. We listen to these: WNYC Public Radio, Mark Levin WABC 77AM, WCOU Radio, WFMU, WFUV- 90.7 FM, WWRL AM 1600 - with Sam Greenfield and Power 105.1 with Chuck Dogg. Megan Barham Report One
RADIO STUDENT - NEW YORK
I met with my mentor at the Power 105.1 station in NYC from 5-6PM and was once again able to sit-in on and observe the last hour of his afternoon show. I was able to help him screen some calls and learned how to edit them to be played on the air. I also spoke to callers who were concert ticket contest winners and acted as my mentor's phone producer, explaining the rules and details of their prize and taking down all of the winner's personal information for the Promotions Department. Finally, I compared the advertisement logs to when they played/were supposed to play on air, and checked them off for accuracy. Im actually in a real radio station learning from a professional.

On Saturday, December 13, I met with Chuck at the Power 105.1 station in NYC from 5-6PM. I observed his show and was able to help operate the board, check the commercial logs, and obtain station readings for the engineers. I am currently working on the Chapter on PSA's and the corresponding assignment in the Coursebook. I am in the door and working with a world famous DJ.

RADIO STUDENT - STATEN ISLAND, NEW YORK
I did commercial reading practice, and learned about recording equipment. I'm getting about 10-12 hours a week in the station. My mentor is a real radio professional and I am learning directly from him.
